Multi-Disciplined Code Oficial I/II “Plans Examiner/ Inspector” 19-126
The City of Overland Park has a full-time Multi-Disciplined Code Official I/II “Plans Examiner/
Inspector” position available in the Planning & Development Services Department. The successful candidate may be hired at the Level I or II, depending on experience.

Responsibilities:
Reviews and approves construction documents related to commercial and residential structures for compliance with City-adopted building codes and other related ordinances related to building construction and life safety. Conducts field inspections to assure compliance with the approved plans, and with City-adopted building codes. Responsible for the plan review and inspection processes for code review. Serves as Plans Examiner of the Day. Assists in emergency operations, including snow removal as required. Assigned projects are varied in complexity.

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Science &
Technology, or a related field. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an insurable driving record. Upon hire must be able to secure and maintain a “City Officer” commission to conduct investigations and issues notices to appear in municipal court.

Multi-Disciplined Code Official I: Must obtain within 12 months of employment with the City, at least one of the certifications designated as a core credit and one of the certifications designated as elective credit for obtaining a Master Code Professional certificate through the International Code Council’s national certification program. One year of practical experience in the construction industry preferred. Good oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Must have a working knowledge of personal computers and software applications such as word processing, database, Bluebeam and spreadsheet applications.

Multi-Disciplined Code Official II: Must possess the following certifications from the International Code Council: Residential Building Inspector, Commercial Building Inspector, Commercial Electrical Inspector, Commercial Mechanical Inspector, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, and Building Plans Examiner. Other types of professional certifications demonstrating proficiency in the building codes may be reviewed for equivalency. Multi-disciplined Code Official I or equivalent experience. Equivalent experience should be a
combination of experience as a Multi-Disciplined Inspector and Plans Examiner. Good oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Must have a working knowledge of personal computers and software applications such as word processing, database, Bluebeam and spreadsheet applications. No City residency requirement. Must successfully pass a background check, drug screen, and physical exam. 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Mon.-Fri. I- $3,896-$4,869/mo.
