CODE ENFORCEMENT INSPECTOR

The City of Bridgeton, Missouri is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Code Enforcement Inspector. The position is responsible for enforcing the minimum maintenance standards and conditions of all properties, buildings and structures within the City of Bridgeton, ensuring that structures are safe, sanitary and fit for occupation and use. Job duties may include, but are not limited to, issuing warnings violation, citations, and court summons; interior and exterior field inspection work; and the preparation of reports, memos, notices, and other correspondence as required.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, with five or more years of experience in code enforcement. Certification as a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector, with familiarity of the 2015 International Property Maintenance Code is required.  The salary range is $22.89 to $32.18 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. The City of Bridgeton offers an excellent benefits package, including health and dental insurance, paid vacation, and the Missouri LAGERS defined benefit pension plan.

Summary

The Building Official assists the Community Development Director in directing, managing, and overseeing the daily operations of the Community Development Department. This position is responsible for the administration, supervision, and enforcement of building and zoning codes, inspections, and compliance measures. The Building Official supervises Building Inspectors and ensures adherence to municipal and national codes. This role requires extensive knowledge of construction practices and the ability to interpret and enforce relevant regulations.

Essential Job Functions

• Plans, organizes, coordinates, schedules, assigns, and evaluates the work of Building Inspectors; provides counseling and training as needed.
• Reviews and approves building plans; inspects structures to ensure construction, alterations, and repairs comply with approved plans and codes.
• Conducts inspections of residential and commercial structures to determine compliance with building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire prevention, and zoning codes.
• Administers zoning regulations and coordinates the implementation of subdivision regulations.
• Prepares detailed reports and presents findings to staff, the City Council, and various commissions.
• Consults with engineers, architects, developers, contractors, and property owners regarding codes, ordinances, laws, and zoning requirements.
• Maintains records and prepares reports on inspection activities.

Minimum Qualifications – you must meet these requirements to be considered for the job.

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction science, or a related field.
• Three to five years of experience in building inspection or a related field.
• Equivalent combination of education, work experience, and code enforcement experience may be considered.
• Certified Building Official certification from the International Code Council.
• Hold and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license with an excellent driving record.

The City of Webster Groves is accepting applications for a full-time Code Enforcement Officer. This position inspects and investigates complaints to verify compliance with adopted codes and ordinances of the City; to safeguard public health, safety and general welfare.  This position is also responsible for related administrative functions as it relates to documentation of inspections.

  1. Typical Qualifications

 

  • High School Diploma/equivalent.
  • Associates degree in inspection technology, or closely related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years work experience in code enforcement or related land use experience.
  • Certification as a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector within twelve (12) months of date of hire. 
  • Certification as a ICC/AACE Certified Code Enforcement Officer (CCEO) within twelve (12) months of date of hire. 
  • Valid driver license.
