Title: Multi-Discipline Inspector
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $58,567.18 with the ability to grow up to $92,401.50
JOB PURPOSE:
The purpose of this job is to ensure the safety and welfare of communities by creating safe buildings and structures. This position is expected to perform inspections with a high degree of accuracy to ensure work performed meets International Code Council requirements. Reviews plan submissions and explains codes and requirements while maintaining a focus on customer service. Protect the health, safety and welfare of people by creating safe buildings and communities. Work is performed both in the office and in the field and involves considerable contact with the public and other persons engaged in property maintenance and construction codes, with a high level of independence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Inspects work done during the construction process to ensure the health, safety and welfare of people by creating safe buildings and communities
Addresses concerns of architects, engineers, contractors, residents, and staff
Performs onsite inspections to ensure compliance with City municipal codes, including the property maintenance code, environmental code, occupancy code, other construction codes and related ordinances.
Reviews plans for code compliance before construction starts
Stays abreast of industry standards and regulations by completing continuing education courses and further certifications through ICC or equivalent
Involves the preparation of daily reports and records on findings
Keeps active and up-to-date office files on all work in process
Prepares reports and accumulates data for court hearings and if corrective measures are not taken; testifies in court as required
Performs proactive inspection sweeps of the city, unrelated to a compliant or scheduled inspection, to ensure compliance of regulations or policies set forth by the City
Performs other duties as required and/or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
International Code Council Certification in all disciplines, including, but not limited to, Mechanical, Building, Plumbing and Electrical
A minimum of one year of related experience
Knowledge of industry standards and practices
Knowledge of all aspects of Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, Residential and Fire codes
Demonstrated interpersonal skills are essential
Ability to climb on a roof, in attics, up ladders, and on scaffolding in order to perform inspections
Ability to solve problems and maintain composure in high pressure situations
Ability to enforce ordinances and other regulations with firmness and tact while exercising good customer service skills
Ability to become knowledgeable of City-specific environmental health and safety codes, property maintenance codes, fire codes, construction codes, and related laws and ordinances within a reasonable amount of time
Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite or comparable software programs and ability to learn others.
