The City of Hazelwood is now accepting applications for a full-time Code Enforcement Officer.

Duties include:

  • Perform interior and exterior Residential Occupancy inspections for compliance with adopted Codes and Ordinances
  • Inspect building interiors, exteriors, fences, driveways, decks, and property for compliance with applicable Codes and Ordinances
  • Issue ordinance violation warnings, citations, and court summons
  • Patrol assigned sector for code violations
  • Respond to resident complaints, mediate disputes, and resolve neighborhood problems involving code violations.
  • Provide assistance and advice regarding Codes and Ordinances
  • Prepare and serve Administrative Search Warrants to abate nuisance violations
  • Prepare reports, memos, notices, correspondence, court summonses, and weekly reports
  • Check business licenses and occupancy permits in the Building Inspector’s absence and take appropriate action
  • Prepare and serve administrative search warrants to abate nuisance violations
  • Be on call to evaluate and declare properties unfit due to uninhabitable conditions

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational/technical training with a minimum of one (1) year of building code, inspection, or related experience
  • ICC Property Maintenance and House Inspector certification, or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire date
  • OR any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities, and appropriate ICC Certifications
  • A valid driver’s license required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to operate a computer, office equipment, camera, vehicle, and inspection-related tools.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing approximately 12 to 20 pounds
  • Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs while performing inspection tasks.
  • Ability to recognize differences in colors, shapes, sounds, odors, and textures associated with inspection work.

Salary & Benefits:

  • $56,784 – $71,850
