The Big Energy Push, 2018 IECC & IRC
This seminar is designed to provide an in-depth look at the Residential Energy requirements in Chapter 11 of the IRC and
Chapter 4 of the IECC with practical application. A checklist will be discussed for plan review and for field inspection verifications. Discussion will cover many topics such as the thermal envelope, failures in envelope, climate zone requirements, air barriers, vapor barriers, total UA path and performance path and how they affect our homes.
Second half of day,
Exterior Wall Systems
Water intrusion through exterior walls may be the largest problem in residential construction today. This course will discusses the IRC requirements for exterior walls of chapters 3, 6 and 7. General installation requirements of products will be discussed, including weather resistance barriers, flashing, vinyl/wood/hardboard siding, masonry and culture veneers, stucco and EFIS systems.
Russell Thornburg
With over 31 years of experience, Russell Thornburg brings to the classroom first-hand knowledge of many aspects of the building industry from the basics of home ownership, to general contracting, to field inspection and plans examiner. For more than twenty years, he was self-employed as a licensed general contractor and has over 17 years of experience working for municipalities in the state of Minnesota and Kansas. During this time, he began teaching Building Inspection Technology programs for Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, as well as Continuing Education Seminars from around the country and ICC chapters. After a short stint serving as Program Manager for Johnson County Contractor Licensing of KS he has returned to Texas and now writes and develops code seminars and presents these programs for various organizations, including municipalities, institutes, ICC chapters, Home Builders Associations, and industries throughout the United States.
