The City of Collinsville is accepting applications for the position of Residential Housing Inspector. This position is primarily responsible for residential and commercial occupancy inspections, property maintenance, plan review and the inspection of buildings at various stages of construction for compliance with approved plans and adopted codes for commercial and residential development. In addition, this position is responsible for investigating violations of and pursuing compliance with the various sections of the City’s Municipal Code.

Duties include but are not limited to: performs on-site interior and exterior property inspections and verifies or enforces compliance with International Building Codes, National Electrical Code, and Illinois State Plumbing Code; performs on-site residential and commercial occupancy inspections to ensure compliance with the City’s Occupancy Inspection Program; and performs investigations of unpermitted work and issues citations or seeks supervisor assistance with regards to unlicensed contractors.
The successful applicant must have three (3) years of experience in building inspection/code compliance.
ICC Residential Inspector Certification and Property Maintenance and Housing Inspection Certification are preferred. Candidates will be provided one year from date of employment to obtain the ICC Residential Inspector Certification and six months to obtain the Property Maintenance & Housing
Inspection Certification.
Candidates must be detail-oriented, autonomous/independent, and people-oriented. Highly qualified candidates will have knowledge and experience with Microsoft Suite; especially, in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of laws, ordinances and codes as they relate to building construction and zoning ordinances; knowledge of methods, materials and techniques used in building design and construction; and knowledge of methods, practices and techniques relating to heating and ventilation.
This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.
A valid driver’s license is required.
The salary range is $43,000 to $55,000 depending on qualifications. The City of Collinsville offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, vision and prescription 100% funded by the City for single coverage. Pension is with the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
