Building Plans Reviewer in the Building Safety Office of the Fire Department.
Responsibilities of Position
This position will review commercial and multifamily specifications and plans
and conduct field inspections for the purpose of obtaining compliance with the
City’s building and related codes. The successful applicant will have the ability
to communicate with inspectors, designers, developers, builders, owners, and
the public in an effective and courteous manner through excellent oral and
written communication skills. Must be able to review, understand and interpret
codes, plans and specifications and obtain compliance of projects; handle a
high volume of projects and priorities with minimal errors; prepare accurate and
concise reports; and maintain effective records.

Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5 or more years experience in building trades or inspection at the
journeyman, foreman, supervisor, contractor, building inspector, plans
reviewer or building design level.
• Possess, or be able to successfully obtain within one year from date of
hire, certification as a Building Plans Reviewer.
• Knowledge of building mechanical, electrical, plumbing and subsystems
and their interrelations with the structure.
• Understanding of basic construction techniques and mathematics as
applied to building applications.
• Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in building construction, design or
related field.

Drug screening and criminal background check will be required. The annual
starting salary is $33.6221 per hour plus an excellent fringe benefits package.
