The City of Hazelwood is now accepting applications for a full-time Building
Inspector.
The Building Inspector is responsible for performing technical inspections to ensure that residential, commercial, and industrial construction complies with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. This position ensures the health, safety, and welfare of the public by enforcing building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical codes and standards.
Duties include:
• Conduct field inspections of buildings under construction, renovation, or repair for compliance with building codes and city ordinances.
• Inspect structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical installations to ensure adherence to approved plans and relevant codes.
• Investigate complaints and issues related to zoning, code enforcement, and building safety.
• Issue correction notices, stop-work orders, or citations when code violations are identified.
• Review and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and follow-up actions.
• Provide information and guidance to contractors, developers, and the general public regarding code requirements.
• Attend meetings and provide testimony or reports as needed.
• Assist in emergency response related to unsafe structures or disaster recovery.
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree or technical training in construction technology, architecture, engineering, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in building inspection, construction, or related field.
• ICC (International Code Council) certification as a Residential or Commercial Building Inspector (ICC B1/ (ICC B2) or must be able to obtained within a year of employment.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Salary:
• $60,060/per year
