Building Commissioner / Planning Director

The City of Pacific is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Building Commissioner / Planning Director. This is a Department head level position that is responsible for overseeing the building, planning and zoning, floodplain management, and code enforcement activities of the City. The Building Commissioner / Planning Director (“Director”) is responsible for enforcing the City’s duly adopted Building Codes and ordinances, Zoning Code and ordinances, floodplain management ordinances, and the rules and regulations promulgated thereunder. The Director further coordinates the activities of the Building and Planning Department with the activities of the Public Works Department, and in general, oversees the building and land development activities occurring within the City.

The Building Commissioner / Planning Director is appointed by the Mayor, subject to the consent of the Board of Aldermen. The position reports directly to the City Administrator. The Director supervises building and code enforcement staff as assigned. The Director works closely with other City staff and will accept other duties as may be assigned.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in public administration, civil engineering, architecture, construction management or closely related field. International Code Council certifications, and / or the ability to achieve certifications in six months is highly desirable. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification and / or Certified Floodplain Manager credentials are also desirable. The ideal candidate will have a background in local government, preferably in an administrative and / or supervisory role.
The pay range for this position is $50,000 to $70,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
