Chapter 34–Existing Buildings of the International Building Code was removed, forcing

jurisdictions to adopt the International Existing Building Code. This comprehensive

course was developed to assist in navigating the code, provide an overview of

compliance types, and discuss significant concepts. In addition to the technical

component of the code, the administration portion of the code will be discussed to

provide an understanding on how to overcome potential process difficulties.

Job Opportunity – Chief Building Official | City of Collinsville, IL

The City of Collinsville is seeking a Chief Building Official to direct and manage the operation of the City’s Building Department. This position reports to the Community Development Director under the general guidance of the current retiring Building Inspector.

This position involves planning, coordinating and supervising all aspects of the Building Division, including inspections, plan review, examination and issuance of building permits, managing and tracking projects and other administrative duties.

The position will work under the direction of the current Building Inspector until his retirement at which time this position will move into the position of Chief Building Official and will provide oversight and supervision of subordinate building inspector(s) both full and part time.

The ideal candidate will possess 5-10 years municipal inspections experience; equivalent experience in the construction trades may be considered supplementally. Certified Building Official preferred, but will consider candidates possessing IRC and/or IBC Certification in both inspections and plan review, or the equivalent. Plan review is a major function of the position and only those with significant plan review experience will be considered. Proficiency in the use of office software and technology is required, as well as a valid Driver’s License.

Salary Range: $60 – $75,000 dependent on qualifications.
