Building Inspector

The City of Pacific, Missouri is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Building Inspector. The Building Inspector is responsible for the enforcement of duly adopted Building Codes and related ordinances of the City of Pacific. The Building Inspector is also responsible for enforcement of the city’s Occupancy Codes. The ideal candidate will have International Code Council certifications in residential, commercial and property maintenance code enforcement, and will have a minimum of three years experience performing building and occupancy inspections in a municipal government setting. Previous experience performing National Electric Code inspections is highly desired. Experience in performing combination inspections including plumbing, electrical and mechanical code enforcement is also desired.

The Building Inspector position is a full-time position. Salary range is $38,000 to $45,000 depending on experience. The City of Pacific offers excellent health insurance and pension benefits. This position is open until filled.

Job Opportunity – Division Director – Building and Code Enforcement | St. Charles County



Starting Salary: $ 76,690.88 per year.

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Plans activities and directs division personnel engaged in building and code enforcement, permitting, inspection, construction approval and related record keeping for unincorporated portions of the County. Supervises completed and in-progress work and tasks.  Provides technical and informational assistance to division staff.  Prepares and administers division budget. Approves budgeted expenditures, projects and tracks revenue, recommends staffing, equipment and supply needs.  Reviews and approves divisional training, payroll and official records. Develops division operating procedures and policies. Hires, disciplines and discharges employees. Allocates personnel, assigns tasks and reviews work. Completes employee performance evaluations. Maintains standards and approves discipline. Manages the correct handling of complaints and development of solutions to meet compliance with county ordinances and directives. Performs or directs required follow-up to resolve oftentimes difficult and/or highly publicized problems, complaints and conflicts within the division. Conducts hearings on dangerous/dilapidated buildings for demolition.  Orders building demolition.  Represents the County in building and/or code enforcement issues to other jurisdictions, professional organizations and associations. Participates in citizen groups as needed or directed by the Community Development Director. Reviews various applicable federal, state and local codes and regulations for potential amendments and improvement to county ordinances or policy and procedures. Recommends new and/or changes to existing County regulations, policies and procedures regarding building and code inspection and enforcement.  Researches and approves new building products or methods. Serves as ex-officio for the Building Commission and Floodplain Vision Board.  Prepares presentations, reports and correspondence regarding codes, regulations and procedures, and attend County Council meetings as directed by the Director of Community Development.  Coordinates division activities with other county departments and personnel. Direct enforcement and legal activities for other Community Development divisions, including follow-up inspections and prosecution of with the County Counselor’s office as necessary.  Oversees the administration of Waste Water System regulations.  Prepares building and/or code enforcement inspection contracts with other governmental agencies. Coordinates inspection services with contract municipalities. Maintains current knowledge of ICC/NEC building codes and all applicable regulations; inspection techniques; budget development and administration policies and procedures; personnel supervision principles; and state and local procurement requirements.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description:
This position is responsible for performing management duties related to Facilities Management including, planning, budgeting, and supervision of routine maintenance, and emergency maintenance of City Hall/PD and Public Works. The position will manage one full time and one part time employee and perform other duties within
the Department as assigned.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate contracts for facilities maintenance including writing specifications, contracts and managing delivery.
  • Supervise Custodial Staff
  • Track vendor performance.
  • Perform regular assessments of building condition.
  • Purchase equipment and supplies.
  • Manage Sewer Lateral and Water Service Insurance Program.
  • Lead the Department Accreditation Process (2 to 3 years)
  • Employee may occasionally self-perform maintenance or custodial tasks in lieu of contracting or assigning to other staff.


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years related experience
