BUILDING COMMISSIONER
This is a contract position, appointed by the Mayor, and approved by Board of Alderpersons to coordinate the building inspection functions for the City of Greendale, Missouri. Building Commissioner is to provide consultation for building ordinance revision and development; perform occupancy and site inspections, and perform plan review. Approve building permits; answer questions for the public, contractors, architects, and engineers regarding code requirements and structural requirements.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
*Responsible for enforcing building codes, laws, ordinances, and regulations.
*Provides input in the development and revision of City ordinances.
*Develops and recommends changes in fee schedules.
*Gives direction to contractors and individuals on construction procedures and practices, including sewer lateral, mechanical, electrical and plumbing changes, modifications and alterations.
*Perform housing, site and building inspections
*Detect deviations from laws, regulations and standard construction practices.
*Plan checking and review; read, interpret and explain building plans, specifications and building codes.
*Approves building permits. Prepare clear and concise written reports.
*Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with officials and residents
*Perform annual Code Enforcement Survey beginning 3rd Monday of May of each year
*Attend quarterly board meetings; April, July, October and December
*Other duties may be assigned by Mayor and billed to the city
*Provide accurate billing of inspections and work performed

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequently stand and walk; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; ability to climb, stoop, crouch and kneel; walk on sloped ground and uneven surfaces; lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds; corrected hearing and vision to normal range

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed outdoors, may be performed in varying temperatures; occasional exposure to dust, chemicals, and gases; occasional exposure to hazards and continuous contact with staff and the public.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & KNOWLEDGE OF
*International Codes (ICC) Building, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Codes.
*General knowledge of City’s Zoning Ordinances.
*Practices, tools, equipment, and rnate1ials used in the general construction trades.
*Development, revision, and administration of building ordinances and regulations.
*Use of office equipment including computers, telephones, calculators, copier, and FAX.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
*Five (5) years of building inspection, plan checking, code enforcement experience.
*Advanced educational training in Public Administration is highly desirable.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
*Possession of a valid Driver’s license
*ICC licenses
*Professional Insurances (Errors & Omissions)
*Personal Vehicle Insurance
