Director of Public Works
The general purpose of the position is to perform complex supervisory, administrative, organizational and professional engineering work, involving the diverse planning, organizing, directing and supervising of four separate divisions of the Public Works Department, which divisions are: Health, Street, Building, and Engineering Divisions. Actively supervises and administers all major public works projects for the City. Provides administrative support to Mayor and oversight for the Department in all budgetary matters. Performs public relations on behalf of the Department and the City. Acts as Assistant-Director of Emergency Preparedness for the City. Evaluates Public Works needs and formulates short and long-range plans to meet needs in all areas of responsibility.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from a four-year college or university, having an accredited course of study, with a bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering; a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering would be preferred. Must have at least five years’ experience and progressive responsibility in the area of Public Works and Health; seven years in the same is preferred.
Certifications and Licenses:
Must be a licensed professional engineer registered under the Laws of the State of Missouri (per City Charter), and being certified as a Missouri Planner-In-Charge is preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
