Full-time; Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Provides supervision of staff including: orientation, training, scheduling, and evaluation. Responsible for recommendations concerning hiring and terminations. Assists in budget preparation, monitors that work activities and purchases are within budget and prepares related documents. Assists in developing and determining administrative policies, regulatory actions and capital purchases. Reviews and responds to customer/resident inquiries, concerns and complaints. Performs a variety of administrative and professional tasks in the maintenance and operations of Building Department activities.
Serves as liaison by coordinating activities with other departments, City Planning and Zoning Commission and other agencies, boards and committees as needed. Provides interpretations of code provisions and recommends code revisions, changes to existing ordinances and need for new enactments. Functions as Administrative Officer for the Board of Appeals. Recommends prosecution of code violators and gives court testimony for the City pertaining to building code issues. Oversight of site plan, building plan, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, fire, and accessibility reviews.
Assists with development and implementation of building and City facility rated capital projects. Coordinates and participates in all activities necessary to ensure safe building and development practices, including enforcing compliance with adopted regulatory codes and ordinances pertaining to all building construction property maintenance and general property development. Assists residents, developers, engineers, architects and regulatory agencies with interpretation and application of adopted codes and regulations. Performs all work in compliance with established City safety standards. Performs other work as assigned.
Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker. Undergraduate degree in a related field and five (5) years of practical experience in the field of code enforcement, building construction or related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience that includes at least three (3) years administrative and supervisory experience. Must have a Motor Vehicle Operator’s license valid in the state of Missouri. International Code Council Certified Building Official Certification or obtain within one (1) year of employment. Thorough knowledge of International Code Council building codes; acceptable construction standards and practices.

Considerable ability to examine plans and specifications for building construction and rehabilitation, including mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, to make interpretations and to determine whether such plans conform with provisions of the applicable codes and good acceptable construction practices. Considerable knowledge of the principles of building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire prevention, property maintenance, private sewage disposal, zoning and other City codes.
