Chief Building Official
The City of Collinsville is accepting applications for the position of Chief Building Official. This is a full-time, non-union, exempt position that reports to the Director of Community Development. Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: planning, coordinating, performing, and supervising all aspects of the Building and Code Compliance functional area, including inspections, plan review, review and issuance of building permits, violations, demolitions, managing and tracking projects, and other administrative duties necessary to fulfill the duties of the position. This position supervises city inspectors and code enforcers.
The successful applicant must have, at minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent and possess International Building Code certifications in residential building inspection, commercial building inspection, and plan review at the time of hire. Certified Building Official certification preferred. Requires five to ten years municipal inspections experience with at least two years of supervisory experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license, strong customer service skills, and computer proficiency. Construction trades experience will also be considered.
SALARY and BENEFITS
Salary depends on qualifications. Salary range begins at $51,000. The City of Collinsville offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, vision and prescription 100% funded by the City for single coverage. Pension is with the Illinois Municipal Retirement system.

This position has office space on the ground floor of City Hall, fully accessible. However, the primary work environment is “in the field” on all types of terrain in all weather.
This is a physical position, which requires a substantial amount of mobility in carrying out the essential duties of the position. Continual walking, climbing, lifting, stooping, and bending are required in the performance of duties related to inspections, both interior and exterior.
Must be able to access all locations/areas throughout the City, including inside houses, basements, crawl spaces, garages, roofs, etc. Must be able to climb and walk on all types of terrain, including grass, rock, mud, concrete, brush/weeds, trees, inclines, etc, and be able to tolerate all kinds of weather from rain to heat and cold temperatures.
Successful candidates must pass a physical and drug screening after contingent job offer.
