Fire-Resistance-Rated Construction and Fire Performance of Lightweight Engineered Lumber | Election of Officers | September 12, 2017

DESCRIPTION

Please note that this seminar is free of charge to MABOI members. There will also be an election of officers held at this meeting.

Seminar Part 1: Fire Performance of Lightweight Engineered Lumber

Instructor: Rich Walke

UL Codes and Advisory Services

This presentation provides a detailed look at the results of a research investigation UL conducted for the Department of Homeland Security on the fire performance of lightweight engineered lumber construction. The research provides back to back comparisons of the performance of legacy construction using dimensional lumber versus modern construction using engineered structural elements. The program covers how the fire risk in residential construction has changed over the recent decades, the methodology used in the research, the results of the research and how the research provided the basis for changes in the 2012 International Residential Code.

Seminar Part 2: Fire-Resistance-Rated Construction

Instructor: Rich Walke

UL Codes and Advisory Services

This program provides an in-depth look at the requirements of the International Building Code for fire-resistive construction. It will start with a detailed look at what is fire-resistance-rated construction, where it is required and what is the required rating. From there, it will cover the practical aspects as detailed in Chapter 7, including the unique requirements for structural elements, walls and horizontal assemblies, the referenced standards, the testing process described in the referenced standards, and the available methods of demonstrating code compliance, including the use of the UL Fire Resistance Directory, Volume 1, the UL Online Certifications Directory and UL Product Spec.
