The City of Berkeley is seeking to fill the position of Multi-Discipline Inspector in the Inspections Department. Qualified applicants must be detail oriented building professionals, possess strong supervisory abilities, interpersonal and communication skills. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: residential and commercial building, and re-occupancy inspections, building code and property maintenance enforcement, issuance of building permits, record maintenance, and maintaining an understanding of current practices and procedures in the field of building construction. Must have the ability to prepare cases for court and testify when needed.
This is a full time position, Monday-Friday, with some Saturdays, during normal working hours. Benefits provided by the City includes paid vacation and sick leave, life, medical and dental insurance, 10 paid holidays and retirement plan.
EXPERIENCE: Three to five years solid experience in code enforcement and building inspections for compliance. Must be community orientated.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
ICC certifications as a residential/commercial building inspector, two years post-secondary college or technical instruction, a minimum of three years’ experience as a building inspector, code enforcement inspector, or equivalent. An Associate’s degree is highly desirable.
