Job Opportunity – BUILDING INSPECTOR | City of Collinsville, Illinois

The City of Collinsville is accepting applications for the position of Building Inspector. This is a full-time, non-union, nonexempt
position that reports to the Chief Building Official. This position is primarily responsible for plan review and the
inspection of buildings at various stages of construction for compliance with approved plans and adopted codes. In
addition, this position is responsible for investigating violations of and pursuing compliance with the various sections of
the City’s Municipal Code.

Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: performing field inspections of residential and/or
commercial buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling; ensuring that structures are being
constructed in accordance with approved plans and specifications, and in compliance with applicable state and local
laws, City ordinances, and codes (including but not limited to building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, energy, and
zoning codes) to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the public.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent; possess or be able to obtain within three (3)
months of hire International Building Code certification as either a Residential Building or Commercial Building
Inspector; a valid driver license; strong customer service skills; computer proficiency; and three or more years of
experience in the inspection field or journeyman-level experience in general building construction.

SALARY and BENEFITS
Salary depends on qualifications. Entry-level range begins at $50,000. The City of Collinsville offers a comprehensive
benefits package, which includes health, dental, vision and prescription 100% funded by the City for single coverage.
Pension is with the Illinois Municipal Retirement system.
